Design for sustainability in lighting

Venerdì 2 maggio scorso abbiamo avuto l’ opportunità di ospitare un gruppo di studenti del corso di laurea magistrale in System Design dell’ Istituto Universitario di Design isia-roma-design/– Sede di Pordenone, per una lezione “on site” sulla valutazione del ciclo vita del prodotto. “Life Cycle Assesment”, accompagnati dal docente, prof. Carlo Proserpio.

L’ incontro di Venerdì è inserito in un progetto di formazione e disseminazione sul ruolo del design nel processo di Transizione che Way Point e sir hanno promosso, coinvolgendo il mondo accademico e delle SMEs.

Dopo aver illustrato la strategia legata alla transizione e alla conseguente modifica e integrazione del modello di business, abbiamo accompagnato il gruppo a visitare i reparti produttivi, da quelli più tecnologici ( linea di produzione SMD, Deformazione lamiera ) a quelli tradizionalmente “artigianalartistici” ( applicazione foglia oro e appicazioni materiche ) per poi avviare un confronto sul ruolo del design per la transizione.

Matteo volpato, ci ha spiegato qual ’è stato il processo di ri ingenerizzazione di un prodotto lighting e qual’ è stato il ruolo della metodologia LCA per la scelta e la creazione dei nuovi componenti utilizzati, contestualmente Mattia e Manfredi hanno documentato, presentando il recente studio, realizzato in collaborazione con in dipartimento di Ing. Gestionale di UniPa, “LCA modelling of Remanufacturing in Lighting Industry – The case study of Way Point”, che non è possible fare un buon progetto senza un approccio LCA Thinking.

Ci siamo focalizzati sul processo di remanufacturing nel settore dell’ illuminazione analizzando le sfide da affrontare suddividendole in tecniche e non tecniche:

Sfide tecniche

  1. Progettazione dei prodotti esistenti:
    -La maggior parte dei prodotti di illuminazione non è progettata per il remanufacturing, rendendo difficile il riutilizzo dei componenti.
    -Necessità di implementare il Design for Remanufacturing (DfRem) per facilitare il disassembling, la durabilità e l’ upgrade dei prodotti.
    -Problemi legati alla scelta dei materiali, che devono essere resistenti alla corrosione, durevoli e facilmente pulibili e non pericolosi
  2. Deprezzamento e usura:
    -I prodotti di illuminazione possono perdere valore a causa di fattori tecnici (durabilità, avanzamento tecnologico) e di mercato (cambiamenti estetici e specificità delle applicazioni).
  3. Logistica inversa:
    -La mancanza di imballaggi standardizzati per i prodotti di illuminazione aumenta il rischio di danni durante il trasporto e lo stoccaggio, complicando il processo di remanufacturing.
  4. Automazione limitata:
    -Il disassembling, ispection e reassembling sono processi altamente manuali e laboriosi, con poche tecniche completamente automatizzate disponibili.

Sfide non tecniche

  1. Raccolta di core di alta qualità:
    -Separare i core dai rifiuti elettrici e elettronici (WEEE) è complesso e richiede sistemi di raccolta ben organizzati.
    -Necessità di strumenti come il Digital Product Passport (DPP) per migliorare la tracciabilità e la qualità dei core raccolti.
  2. Regolamentazione insufficiente
    -Mancanza di normative specifiche per la remanufacturing nel settore dell’illuminazione.
    -Classificazione dei prodotti remanufactured come “usati”, che limita l’importazione e l’esportazione e crea barriere di mercato.
  3. Consapevolezza e cultura limitata:
    -Scarsa conoscenza e accettazione da parte dei consumatori e delle aziende riguardo ai benefici della remanufacturing.
  4. Costi elevati di implementazione:
    -La creazione di infrastrutture per la logistica inversa e il remanufacturing richiede investimenti significativi.
  5. Competitività e collaborazione:
    -Le aziende potrebbero essere riluttanti a collaborare per paura di perdere vantaggi competitivi.

Concludendo

Queste sfide richiedono soluzioni innovative, come il miglioramento del design dei prodotti, l’implementazione di sistemi di raccolta efficienti, il supporto normativo e la sensibilizzazione del mercato. Il remanufacturing, se ben gestito, può contribuire significativamente alla sostenibilità e all’economia circolare nel settore dell’illuminazione.
